The M11 is a version of the M9 specialized for Explosive Ordnance Disposal “EOD”. It is a multi-purpose tool which offers the function of a knife and is issued with a special sheath or scabbard designed to perform as a wire cutter and as a screwdriver. The blade and sheath are the same as that of the M9, but the M11 features a symmetrical cross-guard and hammer pommel. The M11 is sold with an EOD tool pouch which makes readily accessible those tools needed by EOD technicians. The M11 can be used to dig trenches, cut barbed wire, and as a weapon.
